adBrite to cease operations on Feb 1, 2013.

Dear adBrite Publisher,

Over the last few weeks, adBrite and its management have been evaluating the go-forward plan for the business. Given market conditions and certain financial liabilities, in working with our lenders, we have decided to cease operations on Feb 1, 2013.

This is a difficult decision for all of us at adBrite. However, after much deliberation this seems to be the best course of action despite the impact it will have on all the employees, clients and partners who helped build this business. There will be a team in place as needed to assist with winding down.
Thank you for being part of the adBrite community.

Bewelcome and transparency

I just saw this quote on couchsurfing. But did not want to take the time to reply to dead and dying sites

Maybe I wasn't clear enough about this but your and anyone's suggestions about BeWelcome are very welcome - on Bewelcome :)

Sadly Bewelcome has a terrible record in transparency compared to couchsurfing. And sadly all the suggestions since 2007 have been lost

The below two now hidden platforms has 1000s of suggestions and work by several past volunteers.
Also the site design and terribly designed forums have not changed much since 2009
mediawiki: www.bevolunteer.org/wiki (only for archive purpose, no changes since more than a year)
forum (SMF): www.bevolunteer.org/forum (only for archive purpose, no changes since more than a year)
http://trac.bewelcome.org/ticket/1514

What this does is give  new readers to the discussion a false sense of hope .if only they knew....

This ticket is a classic example why bewelcome has NO VISION.

About five years ago JV the top developer voted against using other open source forums which has a more active developer base . They did not want structure to their forums and the clique voted to not have sub forums

now in 2013

To respond to the demand for a clearer separation between groups and forums, we need to develop separate overview pages and and a common landing page for forum threads and group forum threads. Discussion about the problem:  http://www.bewelcome.org/forums/s1785-On_groups_and_forums

large-scale cyber espionage campaign called Operation Red October

In its paper, Kaspersky indicated that at least three different exploits for previously known vulnerabilities in Microsoft Office products were used in these attacks:
  • CVE-2009-3129 -- Microsoft Office Excel Featheader Record Processing Arbitrary Code Execution Vulnerability
  • CVE-2010-3333 - Microsoft Office Rich Text Format Content Processing Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
  • CVE-2012-0158 -- Microsoft MSCOMCTL.OCX ActiveX Control Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
A later report claims that the Oracle Java Applet Rhino Script Engine arbitrary code execution vulnerability documented in CVE-2011-3544 was used by one of the command and control servers in the Red October infrastructure.
This vulnerability is also documented in Intellishield Alert 27890. The following is an interesting fact explained on this IntelliShield alert:

Is google 2 step verificaition really worth it?

It looks like 2-step verification has been turned on for this account. Tell us more about the issue you’re having:

I cannot access my phone or backup options
Without your phone, it can sometimes take 3-5 business days to complete the account recovery process. If you’ve only lost access to your phone or backup options temporarily, you should wait until you can access them again, and try signing in again.

I can sign-in from a web browser, but not from my mobile devices or applications
To work with 2-step verification, mobile devices and non-browser applications require you to use application-specific passwords in place of your normal password. Click Continue to set these up.

I didn’t enable 2-step verification
Someone might have hijacked your account and turned on 2-step verification. To regain access to your account, we’ll have to confirm your identity. If possible, use a computer and browser you recently used to sign-in.

I'm having other issues with 2-step verification
